The woman is Muriel, who for a while was my favorite Tumblr model. For personal reasons, Muriel deleted her blog and disappeared a few months ago; but she was gracious enough to allow me to download her photos beforehand, so I could paint a few more pictures.
This iconic “Bubble” series was created by fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky for the Harper’s Bazaar 1963 Spring Collection. The series, inspired by The Garden of Earthly Delights and Surrealism, depicts model Simone D’Aillencourt in large bubbles floating through the Paris cityscape. Since we are talking pre-Photoshop, the plexiglass bubbles had to be hung from a crane in various locations throughout the city.
